Now that we are in the Easter Season, perhaps one shouldn’t be thinking of Exodus journeys any more. \u00a0 I’m in my office on a bit of a cleaning jag. \u00a0 There is probably enough dust here to liken it to any desert, but that is another story. \u00a0 In my putterings, I found a copy of IMPRESSIONS, a literature magazine from Dickinson State University in 1992. I found in it several old friends, that is poems and prose that I almost forgot I wrote. \u00a0 \u00a0One of them stuck out and I thought I would share it tonight.<\/p>\n

ALMOST AN EXODUS<\/p>\n

I was there<\/p>\n

but where was it that I was?<\/p>\n

Placed suddenly, swiftly<\/p>\n

in an environment<\/p>\n

I neither knew, or understood.<\/p>\n

And yet,<\/p>\n

I said I would come.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So I began<\/p>\n

wondering and wandering<\/p>\n

Cursing….<\/p>\n

the vastness, the dryness,<\/p>\n

the heat of day,<\/p>\n

the bitter cold at night.<\/p>\n

Little creatures, cactus flowers,<\/p>\n

I would not, could not see you<\/p>\n

in my self pity and fears<\/p>\n

I traveled ’round and ’round, again and again<\/p>\n

I could not even tell where I had been.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

MIRAGES….<\/p>\n

Is that You?<\/p>\n

You SHOULD look like that.<\/p>\n

I’ve traveled far enough!<\/p>\n

I deserve a break!<\/p>\n

So I ran towards it with all my strength.<\/p>\n

On my arrival,<\/p>\n

I found nothing but sand.<\/p>\n

Throwing a handful, I screamed,<\/p>\n

“Damn You!” Where are You when I need You?”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So I began<\/p>\n

wondering and wandering<\/p>\n

Cursing . . . .<\/p>\n

the vastness, the dryness,<\/p>\n

the heat of day<\/p>\n

I would not, could not see you<\/p>\n

in my self pity and fears<\/p>\n

Not even recognizing where I had been.<\/p>\n

In my emptiness<\/p>\n

I cried once more,<\/p>\n

“I am failing! I do not know<\/p>\n

how or where to go next.<\/p>\n

I cannot do it.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So I began<\/p>\n

wondering and wandering<\/p>\n

and then, when I did not expect it,<\/p>\n

an Oasis appeared.<\/p>\n

The Water was so large,<\/p>\n

I drank all I could,<\/p>\n

till I could drink no more;<\/p>\n

the quietly I rested<\/p>\n

in the shelter of its shore.<\/p>\n

I would have liked to stay there<\/p>\n

peaceful and content<\/p>\n

but I knew<\/p>\n

the journey had not ended.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So We began,<\/p>\n

wondering and wandering<\/p>\n

Praising . . . .<\/p>\n

the vastness, the dryness,<\/p>\n

the heat of day,<\/p>\n

the bitter cold at night,<\/p>\n

Little creatures, cactus flowers,<\/p>\n

\"Sunbaked<\/a><\/p>\n

Have you always been there?<\/p>\n

How beautiful you are.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I was there<\/p>\n

but where was it that I was?<\/p>\n

Placed suddenly, swiftly<\/p>\n

in an evironment<\/p>\n

I neither knew, or understood.<\/p>\n

And yet, You bid me to come.<\/p>\n
